| Within a context of economic crisis, to promote new projects related to sport, understood in its broadest sense, could definitely contribute to create wealth for the whole of society and put Catalonia as a competitive country in the international sphere both business and sports. At the same time, the sport definitely have an influence to the processes of socialization within the community and the construction of national identity and social cohesion of the country. In this sense, with the 2012 Olympics Games approaching , the Catalan Observatory organizes a conference to highlight, through practical experiences, the importance of sport to the economic and social development, and to show all changes in this regard in Barcelona as a result of the celebration of its Olympics Games in 1992. The conference will be attended by the Vice-President of the Government of Catalonia and the President of "Patronat Catalunya Món", Josep-Lluis Carod-Rovira, the General Secretary for Sport of the Government of Catalonia , Anna Pruna, and many people highlighted in the field of sport such as Charles Wijeratna, Director of commercial negotiations for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Pedro Fontana, operations director of the Organizing Committee of the Barcelona '92 Olympic Games. |
